No-code or custom software for a business product?

No-code wins when the product is a familiar shape, a booking form, a directory, a simple shop, and the goal is to be live this week. Custom software wins the moment the product is the thing that makes the business different, because that part is precisely what a template already decided.

When is no-code the right answer?

When somebody has already built the shape of your product a thousand times. A landing page with a form, a booking calendar, a catalogue, a newsletter: these are solved, and a solved problem bought off a shelf is a founder being sensible with money.

It is also right when speed matters more than fit. A weekend inside a no-code tool answers whether anybody wants this at all, and that question deserves the cheapest answer available.

A studio that says otherwise is selling. If a template does the job, the template is the job.

When does that stop working?

At the moment the interesting part arrives. Every no-code tool is a set of decisions somebody else made about how a product should behave, and the reason a business is worth building is usually a decision that disagrees with one of them.

The second limit is the phones. A tool that publishes a web app is one thing; an iPhone app and an Android app in the stores, with the permissions, the notifications and the review requirements that come with them, is another.

The third is what happens on the way out. A product that grew inside a tool has its logic spread through that tool's own concepts, and moving it means rebuilding it, usually at the moment a business can least afford three months of rebuilding.

What decides it in one question?

Ask what the product does that a competitor's version would do differently. If the answer is a feature, custom software is where that feature can exist. If the answer is a market or a service, a template may carry it a long way.

Then ask the same question about ownership. A subscription to a tool and an asset on a balance sheet are different things, and the difference shows up the day somebody buys the company or the tool revises its pricing.

The First Build is AED 150,000 and 90 days for the custom route, on web, iPhone and Android, with the code handed over. The template route is cheaper and faster, and for a product that fits a template it is the right answer.
